We want to restore investor confidence in the renewable energy sector
Director of the Sarajevo company Eco-Energy Mensud Pekmez says that his goal is to promote the development of energy projects from renewable energy sources (RES/OIE) and Energy Efficiency in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of course, under commercial conditions.
"In doing so, we strive to protect the interests of local communities and other interested parties. Also, we say to ourselves that we are a company that has recognized the problems of this sector and can effectively be compensated for. We approach to our projects maximum responsibly and professionally, and our wish is that through various programs employment directly affects the improvement of life of local communities, "he says.
Otherwise, this company engaged in the development of projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Working on a Pre-feasibility study and in the energy sector, planning and system design, field research and collecting data, then project management. They are emphasizing their work with the local community.
On which project are you currently doing?
We are currently in the process of obtaining a concession for a large company for B & H that we have done everything from field research and locating the position to the preparation of complete documentation. More about this we can say only a few months when the process end. We are a relatively young company, we established last year. We specialize in designing plant planned installed capacity of 50 kW to 1 MW (micro, mini and small). So far we have visited their own initiative, located and recorded more than 50 potential sites that we believe there is a real possibility of installing small hydro plants (SHPP). Within these grounds we have visited so far and all were built of small hydropower plants in the private sector, met with the owners and share experiences and opinions. Most of the time we dedicated to educating the local population, for which purpose we have designed prospectuses, information sheets and brochures, and through our web site almost every day we provide the basic information that we collect when it comes to renewable energy.
What will be the goal of your activities in the coming period?
We aim to restore confidence of investors in this sector, and we can do this only if we offer a realistic assessment based on real, not imaginary, data. Of course, our commitment to the protection of the environment, so we are working on creating and installing only environmentally friendly projects and installations. When developing project ideas pay special attention to the manner and an active involvement of local communities through employment on equipment maintenance and the like, and advance planning halfautomation same. Also, our commitment is not complete automation systems. We want every project to engage as many local people.
Turning to renewable energy is increasingly the trend in the world. In B&H has not yet taken hold, so even though in recent years a lot of stories about it? However, very little has been implemented projects. What is the reason for that?
Using renewable energy sources (RES) are the only chance to alleviate the effects of climate change are inevitable and that we expect of this century. Fossil fuels is less, and their impact on environmental pollution is still getting bigger and bigger. The consequences of burning fossil fuels, unfortunately, can not be stopped, but can be mitigated. Why not use natural renewable resources, resources that will never disappear, and that with it have almost no adverse impact on the environment? Bosnia and Herzegovina has excellent energy potential, not only when the water in question but also wind and solar potential. Why not take advantage? Problems are evident, but I think that they arise primarily because of incomplete and inadequate regulatory legislation aimed at the OIE, which you should be more harmonized with the EU. The truth sometimes comes to a lack of understanding the essence of the projects themselves, or less erroneous assessment of cooperation with the local community. Our approach is somewhat different, we perform the first of the local community and believe that we have not encountered not a single problem.
Does legislation in BiH better use of renewable energy sources?
As I already stated above, the statutory legislation still needs a lot of work to create a positive climate for investors. Here I mean the consideration of options to expedite the administrative preparation, the reduction of the necessary documentation, easier access to information and better understanding of the institutions that service work services to individuals and investors in the economic sector. Because the law exists, but this does not facilitate a positive view of potential investors, both domestic and foreign. Also, it would be ideally if purchase electricity prices got into line with EU standard. They might be slightly higher compared to the current price.
Is there, in your opinion, the BiH society in general awareness of the importance of energy efficiency?
There is a definite, though not to the extent that would satisfy us all. Take account of energy efficiency and includes certain investment that will ultimately lead to lower electricity consumption, and thereby reduce emissions of harmful gases. People still do not think so, but as a financial state to be more cost - which will of course contribute to projects from renewable energy sources - and it will certainly change.
What are the common problems you face?
Problems may manifest during work in different sectors during the preparation and the installation of the plant. We are a company so far to time recognized and successfully handled. We sincerely hope that we will continue to receive positive opinion of the local community and supervisory institutions in our views the decision in the manner of a project. I think it is time that people increasingly understand that the development of mini hydropower plants, wind turbines and arrays of solar panels is a good chance for the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. While other countries have big problems with electricity and the need to import - and there will be mention of Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro - we are able to export. Last year, BiH has exported electricity amounting to more than 400 million. Why that amount, when we can, not tripled?
Plans for this year?
We plan to introduce several local and foreign investitors in this sector. We are preparing a study that will soon be able to offer all interested.
